Tomato Rosella F1 is a Deep pink, cherry tomato tastes of a blend of raspberries, blackberries and other summer fruits

A fabulous new cherry tomato producing unique rose-pink skin with smoky overtones. With its high levels of sweetness and acidity as well as its unusual dark colouring, 'Rosella' is in a class of its own. The unique rich rose-pink skin colour with smoky overtones, along with its delicious dark flesh make this fabulous variety the one to grow this year. Compound trusses produce long branching racemes of cherry-sized, thin-skinned 15g (½oz) fruits with a pronounced and lingering flavour.

Sowing:

  • For greenhouse cultivation: sow from February to March.
  • For outdoor cultivation: sow from March to April.

Sow seeds on the surface of a good, free-draining, damp, seed sowing mix and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place seed trays in a propagator at a constant temperature of around 15-20C (59-68F) until after germination, which takes 7-14 days. When seedlings gain 2 true leaves, transplant into individual 7.5cm (3") pots of compost and grow on at a minimum temperature of 15C (59F).

When growing in a heated glasshouse tomato plants may be transplanted at the end of May or when the first flowers are showing, if earlier. Allow 3 plants per growbag, or one per 25cm (10") pot, or plant tomatoes directly into the greenhouse soil.

When growing tomatoes outdoors, wait until all risk of frost has passed before transplanting tomatoes. Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before planting out from early June when tomato plants are 20cm (8") tall. Choose a sheltered position in full sun on fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and transplant at a distance of 60cm (24") apart. Drive a (5') cane into the soil adjacent to each plant to support them as they grow, and tie each main stem to its support with soft garden twine.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.

Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.

Tomato San Marzano Vegetable Seeds

Product no.: SEEDV193

In stock
Delivery period: 1 working days

from £0.91
Price plus VAT, plus delivery

San Marzano is a classic plum/paste type of tomato from Italy. Borne on  intermediate vines, this variety produces clusters of delicious, elongated fruit  and performs best if staked.
It is a compact and prolific producer of bright-red, slim, 5 to 7cm (2 to 3in),  plum-type which fruit over a long season. It is crack resistant with heavy walls  and little juice.
It has a bittersweet taste. The fruit have the characteristic elongated "plum"  shape, firm flesh and a low number of seeds. The skin is an intense bright red  colour and peels off easily.
It is fragrant and fleshy, rich in flavour (which enhances traditional dishes of  Italian cuisine, the world's best for pasta sauce) and rich in nutrients.

Sowing:
Plant about 3mm (1/8in) deep, in small pots using seed starting compost. Water  lightly and keep consistently moist until germination occurs. Tomato seeds  usually germinate within 5 -10 days when kept in the optimum temperature range  of 21-27°C (70-80°F). As soon as they emerge, place them in a location that  receives a lot of light and a cooler temperature (60-70°F); a south-facing  window should work.

Timing:
As they cannot tolerate any degree of frost the timing for sowing and planting  outside is key to successfully growing tomatoes. Where the seeds are sown under  cover or indoors, aim to sow the seeds so that they reach the stage to be  transplanted outside three weeks after the last frost date. Tomato plants take  roughly seven weeks from sowing to reach the transplanting stage. For example,  if your last frost date is early May, the seeds should be planted in early April  to allow transplanting at the end of May.

Position:
Tomatoes require a full sun position. Two or three weeks before planting, dig  the soil over and incorporate as much organic matter as possible.
The best soil used for containers is half potting compost and half a soil-based  type loam: this gives some weight to the soil.

Transplanting:
When the plants develop their first true leaves, and before they become root  bound, they should be transplanted into larger into 4 inch pots.
Young plants are very tender and susceptible to frost damage, as well as  sunburn. I protect my young plants by placing a large plastic milk jug, with the  bottom removed, to form a miniature greenhouse.
Depending on the components of your compost, you may need to begin fertilising.  If you do fertilise, do it very, very sparingly with a weak dilution.
Transplant into their final positions when they are about 15cm (6in) high. Two  to three weeks prior to this, the plants should be hardened off.

Planting:
Just before transplanting the tomato plants to their final position drive a  strong stake into the ground 5cm (2in) from the planting position. The stake  should be at least 30cm (1ft) deep in the ground and 1.2m (4ft) above ground  level - the further into the ground the better the support. As the plant grows,  tie in the main stem to the support stake - check previous ties to ensure that  they do not cut into the stem as the plant grows.

Dig a hole 45cm (18in) apart in the bed to the same depth as the pot and water  if conditions are at all dry. Ease the plant out of the pot, keeping the root  ball as undisturbed as far as possible. Place it in the hole and fill around the  plant with soil. The soil should be a little higher than it was in the pot.  Loosely tie the plant's stem to the support stake using soft garden twine ?allow  some slack for future growth.

Cultivation:
A constant supply of moisture is essential, dry periods significantly increase  the risk of the fruit splitting. Feed with a liquid tomato fertiliser (high in  potash) starting when the first fruits start to form, and every two or three  weeks up to the end of August. In September, feed with a general fertiliser  (higher in nitrogen) in order to help the plant support it's foliage.
Over watering may help to produce larger fruit, but flavour may be reduced.  Additionally, splitting and cracking can result from uneven and excessive  watering.

Harvesting:
Pick as soon as the fruits are ripe, this also encourages the production of more  fruit. Harvest all the fruit as soon as frost threatens and ripen on a window sill.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.
Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during  season. Regular feeding is recommended.

Tomato Ace 55 VF Vegetable Seeds

Product no.: SEEDV297

In stock
Delivery period: 1 working days

from £0.64
Price plus VAT, plus delivery

Seeds per Pack (approx.): 50

Ace 55 VF This variety is lower in acid than most other tomatoes and often recommended to people who are on a low-acid diet. However, the flavor of these bright red fruit includes a good tart tomato flavor nicely complemented by a sweet taste. Tomatoes are medium-sized, round and produced in great abundance.

Germination: Start tomatoes indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost of spring, sowing the seeds in a flat 1/4" deep and 1" apart. Keep the temperature at 70-75 degrees F until germination, as well as providing adequate light in a sunny window or under a grow light; keep the soil moist, but make sure drainage is adequate. When the second set of leaves emerges, transplant the seedlings into individual pots; bury the stems up to the lowest set of leaves to grow strongly rooted plants. A week before planting the seedlings outside, begin exposing them to the weather during the day to harden them; tomatoes cannot endure cold weather, and should not be transplanted outside until all threat of frost has passed. When the soil temperature reaches at least 70 degrees F, plant the seedlings in full sun and very rich soil; once more, bury the entire stem up to the lowest set of leaves. Space the plants 2' apart. For companion planting benefits, plant tomatoes with carrots or onions, but avoid planting them with cabbage or tomatoes.

Growing: Since temperatures below 55 degrees F can damage production, protect the plants if temperatures drop. A thick layer of mulch helps conserve moisture and control weeds; water the plants once a week, but avoid getting the leaves wet. Determinate, or bush type tomatoes, do not require staking.

Harvesting: Test the ripeness of tomatoes by pressing them gently; the flesh should yield slightly. The mature color also indicates ripeness. If the stem does not come easily off the vine, cut it with a scissors. Vine ripened tomatoes have the best flavor, but as soon as frost comes, all tomatoes should be harvested, even the green ones. Unripe tomatoes will ripen eventually if kept in a warm place out of direct sunlight.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.

Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.

Beefsteak tomatoes are aptly named large, thickly fleshed fruits. They are one of the favorite tomato varieties for the home garden. Growing beefsteak tomatoes requires a heavy cage or stakes to support the often 1 pound fruit. Beefsteak tomato varieties are late maturing and should be started indoors to extend the growing period. The beefsteak tomato plant produces classic slicing tomatoes that your family will love.

Sowing:
  • For greenhouse cultivation: sow from February to March.
  • For outdoor cultivation: sow from April to May.

Sowing

February to April.

Sow seeds 6mm (¼in) deep in pots or trays of good, free draining, damp seed compost and cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite or compost. Place containers in a propagator, or seal in a polythene bag, at a temperature of 18-21C (65-70F) until after germination, which takes 7-10 days.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Plant in the greenhouse in individual large pots, or 3 plants per growbag when 20cm (8in) high. Can be planted outdoors, 45cm (18in) apart once all frost risk has passed.

Space 50cm apart, with approximately 50cm between rows.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.

Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
