Firecracker chilli grow on compact plants no more than 60cm high.  They produce clusters of conical fruit about 15mm wide x 30mm long.  The fruit start off creamy white before slowly ripening through to yellow, purple, orange and then red.  They have a nice fruity kick!

SHU - 30,000 - 50,000. Hot! hot! hot!

These are our Firecracker Peppers. They are smaller pods and are multi-colored with different sizes. Some start yellow/cream and some start light purple or dark purple. They change colors throughout the ripening and are quite colorful with tons of marble sized fruits that will eventually turn red. As the name says, they are quite hot and I wouldn?t eat one raw and not expect a mouthful of fun. It doesn?t matter which color they start out being as they always turn red fully ripened. The wide variety of colors truly are beautiful and they grow perfect in containers.

Sowing & Growing

Growing Hot Peppers is very similar to growing Sweet Peppers and Tomatoes. For best results it is advised to grow the crop indoors with heat. A very hot pepper extremely pungent plants reach up to 1 meter under cover. High yielding.

Chilli Pepper seeds require no prior treatment although steeping them in lukewarm water for 12 hours will encourage germination.

Sow early December-January, or for main crop March- April.

Sow the seed into compost either into a seed tray or into modules with a temperature between 20-24oC and cover with a light layer of compost. Germination typically takes 14 - 21 days. Cover the compost with clear plastic film which helps raise the temperature aiding germination.

Once seedlings emerge they do not require quite as much heat, temperatures can be reduced to 18oC by day and no lower than 16oC at night.

It is best to re-pot in stages before their final pot size. Once in final pot size plants may need staking for support. Water regularly but be careful not to over water, surface of compost can be allowed to dry out slightly between watering.

Please note that germination can be slow and erratic on some open pollinated hot peppers.
