Gardener’s Delight as a Brix Value 7

The brix Value is the measurement used to determine how much sugar is in the fruit. The higher the value, then the higher the sugar content and sweeter fruit will be to taste.

'Bite-sized' fruits packed with rich, sweet flavour. Heavy crops borne on long trusses. Can be grown either as a bush or as a single stem. Greenhouse or outdoors harvest June-September.

Plant out in large pots, growing bags, or into a soil border at 45cm (18") apart in early June. Pinch out side shoots regularly and when in flower tap or shake plants daily to aid setting.

For growing in unheated greenhouses, Plant late April-early May. Harvest mid August-mid October.

OUTDOOR CULTURE: Harden off the plants before planting 45cm (18") apart in early June. Choose a warm, sheltered position.

Sowing temperature 65°f - 68°f constant.

Grow on at 60°f minimum.

Harvest mid August-mid October. Standard varieties: Support with stakes or canes. Pinch out the main growth when four good trusses have set. Bush varieties: These cease growing when 30-38cm (12-15") high. Do not remove side shoots. Support is not essential, but short stakes will help control the plants and keep fruit clean.

When plug plants arrive transplant into individual 7.5cm (3") pots of compost and grow on at a minimum temperature of 15C (59F).

When plants are well grown, transplant into baskets and containers. If the plant is suited for growing outdoors when all risk of frost has passed gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before positioning baskets outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun once all frost risk has passed.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.
Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.

A good all-rounder, very reliable and productive with big trusses of medium-sized fruit with a pleasantly sweet flavour. Plug Plant Count: 12

We are offering twelve (12) Calabrese Marathon F1 Plug Plants ready for potting on and growing on in frost free greenhouse or on sunny windowsill ready for planting out as soon as last frosts have passed

Calabrese Marathon F1 has really set the standard for performance, yield and quality. It produces medium size, uniform, dense heads of bluish-green 'beads' on sturdy plants that will grow well in almost any soil and under any conditions. The large blue-green heads are slow to run to seed and have good disease resistance.

Marathon is a versatile variety with very dense heads which hold well. It can be used for summer and autumn crops. Sow in September or from February to July. Ready in about 13 weeks after germination. The strong growing plants will produce an abundance of spears after cutting the head

Calabrese has a flavour that some find a little milder than sprouting broccoli. Add to that a shorter growing season and it makes an ideal vegetable for those who like quicker results. Just like sprouting broccoli, this delicious and healthy ?superfood' is packed full of vitamins, iron and other health-giving benefits.

Cultivation:
Once the plants are in the ground the process is easy. Just let them stand and protect them from the eggs of Cabbage White butterfly. Remove any yellowing or fallen leaves and burn them to prevent fungal diseases setting in. Being a shorter-term crop, it is less likely to be troubled by aphids or caterpillars

Harvest: Late winter to late spring.
The heads must be cut whilst in tight bud; once per week in cool weather, twice a week is essential in warm weather, as this encourages the side shoots to develop quickly. Use a sharp knife and leave a small stalk. Pick the side-shoots regularly (when about 10cm (4in) long. Regular picking can extend cropping time for up to eight weeks. Don't get carried away and strip plants entirely in one go.

Plant Count: 3

We are offering three (3) x Aubergine Patio Baby plug plants ready for potting on and growing on in frost free greenhouse or on sunny windowsill ready for planting out as soon as last frosts have passed

Aubergine Patio Baby is full deep purple aubergine fruit measuring approximately 8cm, growing your own is easy with this early-ripening aubergine variety. Perfect for pots, containers and smaller sized gardens.

Best covered in netting to avoid being eaten by wildlife and planted in compost rich soil.

Aubergines do well in containers, which permit them to be relocated to a cold frame or greenhouse during cooler weather. The pots can also be repositioned on a patio to take advantage of any suntraps. For season-long greenhouse crops, grow plants in the border, digging in fresh compost a few weeks before planting time, or in grow bags or containers.

Growing instructions

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots and grow on steadily in a slightly reduced temperature. Pot on finally into a larger container or 2 plants per grow bag, or outdoors in the open bed plant 70cm apart once plants have been acclimatized to conditions and after all risk of frost has passed. Plants are supported with vertical strings or canes, and also with horizontal ties or loops around the plants to keep them from sprawling if 2-3 stems are allowed to develop. How much pruning to do to avoid over cropping is a matter of some difference of opinion. While 2 or 3 stems can be taken, plants can be maintained on one stem with side shoots reduced beyond the flowers which form. The basic object is to aim for 6-9 fruits per plant, though this can be exceeded on longer term culture. Lower leaves are removed as they become yellow, otherwise they will trail and become diseased.

Aftercare Grow indoors, or outside in rich soil, in a sunny situation.
Once first flowers have set, feed and water regularly with a high potash tomato feed. Harvest regularly to promote further flowers and to extend the picking season.

Cropping Time 80 days

Plug Plant Count: 12

We are offering twelve (12) Cabbage Greyhound Pointed Heads Plug Plants ready for potting on and growing on in frost free greenhouse or on sunny windowsill ready for planting out as soon as last frosts have passed

Cabbage Greyhound produces early maturing, pointy heads in the summerand autumn. This tasty cabbage has almost no core and only few outer leaves. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Greyhound is neat and compact perfect if you have limited space for cabbages in your garden.

Cabbage – Greyhound is a favourite early variety, with pointed heads of excellent flavour.  A reliable favorite Greyhound is one of earliest summer cabbages with pointed heads and excellent flavour.   The compact, pointed heads are produced quickly with few wasteful outer leaves so it can be grown more densely than other varieties.  Can be sown up until late July to produce a crop for cutting in October.

Seedlings are ready for transplanting when they have 5 or 6 leaves. Make a hole big enough to accommodate the root ball firming the soil around the plant.

The spacing between plants depends on the end product, for compact heads space at 30cm, 45cm for large heads and only 15cm for spring cabbage to encourage the pointed conical shape.

All young seedlings and transplants should be protected from cabbage root fly. The most successful way to do this is with protective discs around the base of the stem, often called ‘collars’.

Keep young plants well watered until established and then only water during dry periods. Keep weeds under control in the beds. Earth up spring and winter cabbages in winter and firm down any which have been loosened by wind and frost.

Cultivation:
Once the plants are in the ground the process is easy. Just let them stand and protect them from the eggs of Cabbage White butterfly. Remove any yellowing or fallen leaves to prevent fungal diseases setting in. Being a shorter-term crop, it is less likely to be troubled by aphids or caterpillars
