Plug Plant Count: 6

We are offering Six (6) Celery Victoria F1 Plug Plants ready for potting on and growing on in frost free greenhouse or on sunny windowsill ready for planting out as soon as last frosts have passed

Celery Victoria F1 is mid green colour, tall with fleshy petioles. One of the best flavoured celery varieties available which is self blanching, quick growing and has a good standing ability. Celery loves moisture, but Victoria can be grown in places that you may have thought are too dry. Early to mid season production and will grow where it is traditionally difficult.

Celery is a forever popular salad vegetable with its crisp sweet stalks, but is equally as tasty braised or chopped in casseroles.

Handy Tip:

  • Celery requires deep, rich soil and copious watering throughout the growing season.
  • If the weather does turns cold after you have planted out your celery (night temperatures consistently under 10°C/50°F for about two weeks), cover them with fleece or cloche, to prevent them running to seed.
  • Water well, especially during periods of dry weather, and keep weed free.
  • Mulching around the base of the plants will help to retain water and keep the roots cool.

Seedlings are ready for transplanting when they have 5 or 6 leaves. Make a hole big enough to accommodate the root ball firming the soil around the plant.

The spacing between plants depends on the end product, for compact heads space at 30cm, 45cm for large heads and only 15cm for spring cabbage to encourage the pointed conical shape.

All young seedlings and transplants should be protected from cabbage root fly. The most successful way to do this is with protective discs around the base of the stem, often called ?collars?.

Keep young plants well watered until established and then only water during dry periods. Keep weeds under control in the beds. Earth up spring and winter cabbages in winter and firm down any which have been loosened by wind and frost.

When plug plants arrive transplant into individual 7.5cm (3") pots of compost and grow on at a minimum temperature of 15C (59F).

When plants are well grown, transplant into baskets and containers. If the plant is suited for growing outdoors when all risk of frost has passed gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before positioning baskets outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun once all frost risk has passed.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.
Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
