Growing Hot Peppers is very similar to growing Sweet Peppers and Tomatoes. For best results it is advised to grow the crop indoors with heat. This means that crops can be grown all year round with the correct temperatures.

Growing Instructions

It is best to re-pot in stages before their final pot size. Once in final pot size plants may need staking for support. Water regularly but be careful not to over water, surface of compost can be allowed to dry out slightly between watering, temperatures can be reduced to 18oC by day and no lower than 16oC at night.

Pinch out tip when flowers show to encourage laterals. Mist flowers. Feed weekly with proprietary tomato feed.

Harvesting

Hot peppers can be harvested from green or once ripened into yellow, orange or red. A Hot Pepper?s heat usually intensifies with maturity. Once ripe fruits can remain on plant in good condition until temperatures begin to drop.

Height Control

The use of chemical growth regulators are not recommended on pepper plants. Growth can be effectively controlled by high light levels and spacing of plants.

Ideal for: patio

When plug plants arrive transplant into individual 7.5cm (3") pots of compost and grow on at a minimum temperature of 15C (59F).

When plants are well grown, transplant into baskets and containers. If the plant is suited for growing outdoors when all risk of frost has passed gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before positioning baskets outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun once all frost risk has passed.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.
Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
