Plug Plant Count: 12

We are offering twelve (12) Cabbage Stonehead F1 Plug Plants ready for potting on and growing on in frost free greenhouse or on sunny windowsill ready for planting out as soon as last frosts have passed

Stonehead F1 cabbage forms small, round globes that average between 4 and 6 pounds (1.8 to 2.7 kg.). The flavourful heads are perfect raw ingredients for coleslaw and in salad and is equally delicious in cooked recipes. The heads mature early (67 days) and resist cracking and splitting. This can extend the harvesting season, as not all Stonehead cabbage plants need to be harvested at the same time.

Stonehead F1 cabbage plants are resistant to yellowing leaves, black rot and pest infestations. They grow to a maximum height of about 20 inches (51 cm.) and can withstand a mild frost.

Seedlings are ready for transplanting when they have 5 or 6 leaves. Make a hole big enough to accommodate the root ball firming the soil around the plant.

The spacing between plants depends on the end product, for compact heads space at 30cm, 45cm for large heads and only 15cm for spring cabbage to encourage the pointed conical shape.

All young seedlings and transplants should be protected from cabbage root fly. The most successful way to do this is with protective discs around the base of the stem, often called ‘collars’.

Keep young plants well watered until established and then only water during dry periods. Keep weeds under control in the beds. Earth up spring and winter cabbages in winter and firm down any which have been loosened by wind and frost.

Cultivation:
Once the plants are in the ground the process is easy. Just let them stand and protect them from the eggs of Cabbage White butterfly. Remove any yellowing or fallen leaves to prevent fungal diseases setting in. Being a shorter-term crop, it is less likely to be troubled by aphids or caterpillars

  • Spacing, Row: 22-24 inches
  • Spacing, Plant: 24 inches
  • Light: Sunny Location
  • Or plant directly outdoors in mid spring or early summer when last frost has passed.
  • Plant cabbage in a sunny location where no cabbage was grown the year before. Keep weed free, moist and protect against pests.

Harvest: November to March.
Once they feel solid and are firm to the touch, cabbage can be harvested by cutting the stalk at the base of the plant. Unlike other varieties of cabbage which must be harvested upon maturity to prevent split heads, Stonehead can stay in the ground longer. Don't get carried away and strip plants entirely in one go.

When plug plants arrive transplant into individual 7.5cm (3") pots of compost and grow on at a minimum temperature of 15C (59F).

When plants are well grown, transplant into baskets and containers. If the plant is suited for growing outdoors when all risk of frost has passed gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before positioning baskets outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun once all frost risk has passed.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.
Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.

We are offering twelve (12) Cauliflower All Year Round Plug Plants ready for potting on and growing on in frost free greenhouse or on sunny windowsill ready for planting out as soon as last frosts have passed

Cauliflower All Year Round a popular and reliable English Heirloom variety that you can sown and harvest in all the cauliflower periods. Although, best planted in summer and overwintered for harvesting the following year. Ideal for succession sowing. The dwarf compact plants will make very large, tight heads and are one of the easiest to grow as well. Prefers a moist, rich well drained soil for optimum heads.

Great standard variety, large heads. Mature plants tolerate frost and need the coolest part of the year to develop heads. When heads appear tie leaves over head to prevent discolouration and maintain quality.

Seedlings are ready for transplanting when they have 5 or 6 leaves. Make a hole big enough to accommodate the root ball firming the soil around the plant.

Plant cauliflowers at a distance of 25cm (10") between plants each way for 'baby heads', and 60cm (24") apart for larger heads.

Plug Plant Count: 3

We are offering Three (3) Chocolate Cherry Tomato plug plants ready for potting on and growing on in frost free greenhouse or on sunny windowsill ready for planting out as soon as last frosts have passed

Chocolate Cherry Tomato has high levels of sweetness cherry tomato tastes of a blend of raspberries, blackberries and other summer fruits

The brix Value is the measurement used to determine how much sugar is in the fruit. The higher the value, then the higher the sugar content and sweeter fruit will be to taste.

This easy to grow black cherry tomato produces delicious, black/red cherry sized tomatoes on a large vine. Sweet fruits are often described as having a complex, exceptionally sweet and juicy smoky flavour.

Tomato 'Chocolate Cherry' is a exotic-looking, cordon variety producing an abundance of early ripening fruit on vigorous plants throughout the summer. Perfect for containers or planters in the greenhouse or on the patio, but can also be planted in a sunny spot in the garden. Another children's favourite, this cherry makes a great addition to and relish tray or rainbow mix of small fruited tomatoes.

When growing in a heated glasshouse tomato plants may be transplanted at the end of May or when the first flowers are showing, if earlier. Allow 3 plants per growbag, or one per 25cm (10") pot, or plant tomatoes directly into the greenhouse soil.

When growing tomatoes outdoors, wait until all risk of frost has passed before transplanting tomatoes. Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before planting out from early June when tomato plants are 20cm (8") tall. Choose a sheltered position in full sun on fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and transplant at a distance of 60cm (24") apart. Drive a (5') cane into the soil adjacent to each plant to support them as they grow, and tie each main stem to its support with soft garden twine.

Very popular maincrop variety. This heavy yielding, long stalked variety is ideal as a good low maintenance crop.

Rhubarb Victoria is one of the easiest Rhubarbs to raise from seed and can usually start to be harvested one year after sowing. It produces sweet, juicy, medium sized green stalks and greenish-red coloured leaves. It is a popular variety being extremely productive for years.

  • Scientific Name: Rheum rhabarbarum
  • Blooming Season: Summer
  • Plant Habit: Mounded, Upright

  • Fertilize: None or when needed only
  • Spacing: 36 - 48" (91 - 122cm)
  • Height: 18" (46cm)
  • Width: 40" (102cm)
  • Exposure: Sun
  • General Information: This is a slightly green rhubarb, with an excellent rich tart flavour.

Position:
Good garden drainage is essential in growing rhubarb, planting in raised beds helps ensure against rotting of the crowns. Crowns will have longevity of many years, but because of diseases and insects, it is normal to reset a bed after four to five years

 Harvesting:
Remove the flower stalks as they are seen. During the first year of planting, the stalks should not be picked, since food from the leaves is needed to nourish the roots for the next year's growth. A light picking may be taken during the year following planting, following that: the entire plant may be harvested. When harvesting rhubarb, the first step is to cut the stalks at the soil line or simply pull them out individually. All of the stalks of a plant may be harvested at one time, or pulled out selectively over a 4 to 6 week period. After the stalks are cut, the leaves may be removed.

Keep young plants well watered until established and then only water during dry periods. Keep weeds under control in the beds. Earth up spring and winter cabbages in winter and firm down any which have been loosened by wind and frost.
