WHEN TO SOW
February to April
 

WHERE TO SOW
Sow the North Holland onion seeds from early spring outdoors in an open, sunny, well prepared bed. Or you can sow the seeds under protection earlier in the spring or in late summer.  2 cm deep and leave 30 cm between the rows. Sow them in every two to three weeks for a continuous supply of fresh salad crop during the summer. ?Sow thinly in shallow 1cm (½") deep rows 30cm (12") apart. Can be sown 2 or 3 seeds into plug cells.

WHAT TO DO NEXT
As soon as seedlings are large enough to handle, start thinning out until about 10cm (4") apart. Plant out plug-grown plants when seedlings are about 10cm (4") tall.

HANDY TIPS

Onion seed does not like being sown into wet soil. It may help to sprinkle some dry compost into the row before sowing.

Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
