Known as a semi-savoy type spinach, Banjo has mid green crinkled leaves that are succulent and create a satisfying bite when served raw in salad.

The plants are full of vigour and highly resistant to mildew and they are very slow to bolt. The tender young leaves are soft and buttery when cooked.

Happy grown in containers, in raised beds or directly in the ground you can sow spinach Banjo little and often from early spring right to autumn for steady harvests and no gluts.

Sow small amounts every 3-4 weeks from late March until July. Sow 3 seed per cell in modular trays and plant out 4 to 5 weeks after sowing without splitting up the module or sow seeds March to July outdoors.

Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (½in) deep in broad drills, 30cm (12in) apart. Can be sown under cloches or frames in September.

Thin seedlings to 5cm (2in) apart when large enough to handle, thinning will be suitable for use in salads,

Harvest leaves as required, picking only a few from each plant.

Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
