Lucullus Swiss Chard is it's light green stalks. An old favourite with many customers. Fine quality, light green, deeply savoyed leaves on thick, white, long, smooth stems. Keep cut regularly and this chard will bear and remain in prime condition over a long period.

This RHS AGM variety produces an abundance of wide, white stems which are deliciously succulent when cooked like asparagus, and served with butter. The large, tasty leaves make a flavoursome alternative to spinach, and if left to flower, the flower stalks can also be cooked and eaten like sprouting broccoli. Initially cropping from mid-summer to late autumn.

Great Cooked or fresh, Easy to Grow Variety 52 days - this is the most popular variety named after the Roman general of the same name. Heavily crumpled with wide, broad white ribs about twenty inches tall. Tolerates hot weather and grows until first frost heavy producing plant with good flavor.

Fruit:

• Light green, deeply savored, white veined, leaves. Long, smooth stem with white, rounded midribs mild and sweet! Savored leaves top pale ivory celery-like stalks.

Sowing advice:

• Direct sow Leaf Beet seed outdoors from March to August. Grow Leaf Beet in a well prepared, moist, fertile seedbed in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½?) in drills 30cm (12?) apart. Thin seedlings to 7cm (3?) apart for ?baby leaves? which will be ready to harvest approximately 50 days from sowing. For larger chards/leaves thin to 15cm (6?) apart, or 23cm (9?) for mature plants.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.

Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
