Blackberry Merton Thornless Plant Producing Large Excellent Juicy Blackberries

Blackberry Merton Thornless is a compact plant, easily managed variety with thornless stems, producing generous crops of large, sweet, juicy berries with a rich blackberry flavour. Delicious eaten fresh or stewed, in pies or crumbles, as well as making excellent jam or jelly. A late season variety, ripening in August-September.

Height and spread around 2m. Large fruit up to 2.5cm diameter. Excellent flavour. Fruits August-September.

Planting Growing Instructions Plant in well prepared, well-drained soil enriched with well-rotted manure or compost, in sun or light shade. Space plants at 2-2.5m intervals. Provide support on wires on a trellis, fence or arch, or on a post and wire structure. Cut old canes down to the ground after fruiting and tie in new canes for the next season's fruit. Mulch with spent hops or compost in spring. Make sure that you keep the area weed free.

Cultural Instructions Cut back any dead or wayward shoots in February/March and mulch annually in March. Water freely during growing season.

Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers.

Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season. Regular feeding is recommended.
