Try this fast growing, can be planted at only 20cm spacing and provides multiple cuttings of tasty fat shoots with a taste similar to asparagus. The white flowers are pretty as well, but if you wait to admire them your Kailaan will be woody. Cut it just as they are opening and you will be rewarded with an excellent easy vegetable.
Needs fertile soil and good growing conditions. Treat as broccoli, spacing 20-30 cm between rows, 15-20 cm within rows. Can transplant from modules or direct drill.
With a similar flavour to European broccoli but on a rather more refined plant with all parts edible. From deliciously tender stems and leaves, to buds and flowers.
Blanch diagonally sliced stems for 3-4 minutes until tender then stir-fry with oil flavored with garlic, oyster or soy sauce and pinch of sugar, add the leaves and flowers for last couple of minutes cooking - scrumptious!
